The Westerville North boys basketball team put together a solid performance down the stretch in defeating visiting Dublin Scioto 49-42 on Jan. 26, 2021.
The Warriors (6-6) were led by Camden Ledford and Caleb Iheukwu, who scored 15 and 10 points, respectively.
“We feel good because we won a game tonight that earlier in the year we wouldn’t have won,” said North coach Shan Trusley. “It’s tight in the fourth quarter and we’re up a point and down a point. We’re learning how to win. The kids are feeling more confident. We made some free throws and we got stops.”
Up 43-42, the Warriors got a key blocked shot from Iheukwu with two minutes remaining. Iheukwu sank two free throws with 1:21 left to put North up 45-42 and Andrew Scurlock made both ends of a one-and-one to boost the lead to 47-42 at the 46-second mark. Ledford’s layin with 30 seconds left accounted for the final margin.
The Warriors led 15-5 after the first quarter, but the Irish came back to lead 20-19 at the half. North was up 32-27 entering the final period.
