The Westerville North girls basketball team survived a tough test from visiting Whitehall before prevailing 48-41 in the inaugural One Westerville MLK Classic on Jan. 18, 2021.
The Warriors (11-0) were led by Imari Martin’s 15 points while Emoni Finch and Kayla Curry-Brown added 11 points apiece.
“We continue to get everybody’s best shot because they look at our record,” said North coach Lamont Tillman. “They circle it on their calender and they want to come here and give us our first loss. “We continue to battle and find ways to win in the end.
“Our girls have been preparing for the times and the minutes that we’ll have to play without some of our starters. “We held the fort a little while she (Charia Smith) could get back in there. We turned it up on the defensive end and got a couple timely steals and came out on top.”
The Warriors led 11-7 after the first quarter, but the Rams fought back to tie the game at halftime 19-19. It was 31-30 Whitehall entering the final period.
