The Westerville North boys basketball team battled visiting Big Walnut tough before falling 57-38 on Jan. 5, 2021.
The Golden Eagles led 11-9 after the first quarter and 28-19 at the half. The Warriors (0-3) fought back to tie the game at 30 in the third period before trailing 35-32 entering the fourth quarter.
“We’re trying to find our identity,” said North coach Shan Trusley. “That’s going to take some time because we’re young. We’ve got a lot of guys who’re playing varsity basketball for the first time or they’re getting extended minutes for the first time.”
Senior Camden Ledford and sophomore Semaj Council scored 11 points apiece to pace eight North players who reached the scoring column.
“We’re going to play a lot of basketball in the next month and a half,” Trusley said. “I’m very optimistic because we’ve shown glimpses of who we can be. In our first game against Canal (Winchester) we had some good stretches. Against Central in our second game we had three and a half really good quarters. We’ve just got to be more consistent.”
Big Walnut improved to 3-1 with the win.
